Antimicrobial Peptides for Antibiotic Resistant Germs
- Field
- Therapeutic Chemicals
- Reference No.
- IP00931
Background
- Interest in antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as novel antibiotics has increased in recent years, due to their promising antimicrobial activity and low potential for resistance development.
- One group of AMPs is called calcium-dependent antibiotics (CDAs). There is a common issue in the development of CDAs which is resulted from the biosynthesis process. The modifications resulted by biosynthesis were limited to the specific amino acid residues, yet very few of the generated analogues showed promising antibacterial effect.
Technology Overview
- The current invention provides a method via chemical synthesis to generate calcium-dependent antibiotic analogues with promising antibacterial activity.
- A synthetic route for the total synthesis of the CDA3a has been developed.
- Some analogues were found to show 100−500-fold higher antimicrobial activity than the natural compound CDA3a against drug resistant bacteria.
Applications
- Antibiotics (targeting Gram-positive resistant germs)
