ABSTRACT : 
As the field of artificial intelligence grows in importance and value, various entities are seeking to protect advances using the patent system.  However, algorithms, which provide the foundation for artificial intelligence, are themselves patent ineligible subject matter.  The presentation explores what is “patentable subject matter”, and specifically how to describe and thereby capture innovations in artificial intelligence for patentability purposes.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER : 
Mr. Gregory Turocy’s practice focuses on patent prosecution involving a wide spectrum of technology areas from Chemistry, biotechnology and computer science, etc., as well as patent counseling and developing powerful patent portfolios designed to block competitors.  Mr. Turocy was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1991, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He was admitted to the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio in 1994, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Professional memberships include the American Bar Association Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section; the American Chemical Society; the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Intellectual Property Owners Association, and the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
